The Wrong Turn

Women should have justice as well as praise, and if she is to dispense with
either, she can better afford to part with the latter than the former. —Frederick
Douglass.

Feminism is a movement that began in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. centuries with the goal of increasing opportunities for women, with a focus on suffrage. At the Seneca Falls Convention in the United States in 1848, 300 men and women came together to support the cause of women’s equality. It allbegan with the ideology of promoting women’s equal rights to refrain from social injustice. Gandhi included the women’s movement in the “Quit India Movement” in India, which led to the emergence of an independent women’s organization. Within each “wave” of the movement during the 19th century, men actively participated in significant cultural and political responses to feminism. It was all about achieving equality among all people and eradicating patriarchy and misogynistic ideas. In other words, to be on par with men, not above or below. In addition to advancing the status of women, feminism aims to liberate men from social norms that limit them (such as the need to be aggressive or violent).

While modern feminism has changed, many women now opt to embrace phoney feminism, speaking about it in a way that suits their needs, and preferences. As a result, numerous false accusations of sexual and physical assault, victimisation for personal gain, body shaming, etc., people have been victims of feminist tactics, ruining many lives of both men and women. Both genders experience trauma from fake feminism in the same way that patriarchy does. Rigid, furious feminism has veered off course and turned into a movement that exploits and oppresses both men and women in society. Every reform is implemented to improve society as a whole and the lives of individuals.

Although social media has a body-positive agenda and advances feminist efforts to advocate for gender equality, it creates an unrealistic beauty image and standards that are characterised by thinness and sexual attractiveness. The media is absolutely guilty of redefining and remodelling beauty standards. It instills in the users a sense of elevated self-esteem, which causes them to look down on others. Elite feminism, aided by influencers, has methodically created beauty ideals under the influence of social media. Phoney feminism has instilled in women the desire to see themselves as the superior gender and to separate themselves from the rest of society, both personally and professionally.

Feminism, according to elite feminists, is solely for cisgender women. They want
to eliminate all males from the workforce in an effort to get retribution for events that occurred in previous generations, and instead of advocating for equality and equity, they want to establish a matriarchal society. Several men in today’s generation, like Will Smith, Chris Hemsworth, and others, identify as feminists. The true feminist idea that helped men understand their responsibilities in the home and encouraged them to spend more time with their children and take part in domestic chores has been lost to today’s generation. When women are treated with the same respect and appreciation as men, there is a greater sharing of sentiments and a sense of connection formed between couples. Women get a sense of belonging when they are granted equal authority as a result of feminism, which motivates them to give more of themselves to others around them on a personal and professional level. Owing to social media’s outspoken platforms, which are largely controlled by Gen Z and millennials, feminism has come to be associated with a
negative connotation.
