GLOBAL WARMING-A HAUNTING REALITY

“Scientific evidence for warming of the climate system is unequivocal.”
– Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

Global warming is the issue being talked about for decades but we haven’t figured out yet how to deal with it on a massive scale. This demon is almost going to engulf us if we don’t act on time. While some Scientists and Environmentalists are warning us of the upcoming doom some people due to lack of awareness on the issue are still in denial.

Denying the issue will only make the situation worse. Climate change is a harsh reality of the planet and there are dangers associated with it for humans as well as animal species.
And we have started paying the price of climate change already.

What is Climate change?
It is the increase in the average surface temperature of the earth.
The planet’s average surface temperature has risen about 2 degrees Fahrenheit (1 degrees
Celsius) since the late 19th century, and this change is caused by increased carbon dioxide
emissions into the atmosphere and other human activities. It is alarming that Most of the
warming occurred in the past 40 years and the seven most recent years were the warmest. The years 2016 and 2020 are considered as the warmest years on record.

Effects of Climate change
RISE IN SEA LEVEL
Scientists have warned of the rising sea levels and submergence of many important towns and cities of coastal areas.

It’s extremely dangerous as destruction of important cities and towns would mean loss of lives and livelihoods. Many important cities like Mumbai in India and Dhaka in Bangladesh are at the risk of submergence.

LOSS OF HABITATS OF ANIMALS
There are animals who can’t survive the effects of climate change and they have started getting extinct.

One such animal known as Polar bear which lives on the ice of the arctic is at the risk of
extinction.
These poor animals are bearing the brunt of Global warming. If they are not saved their
existence would be erased.

INCREASE IN EXTREME EVENTS
Global warming has increased events of flooding, unusual weather patterns, increased rainfall, destruction of crops and wildfires across the Globe. These impacts of Climate change can’t be denied and are sending us alarming messages.

HUMAN ACTIVITIES
Global warming has been a much talked about issue so to clearly understand it we must know its causes.
The main cause of Global warming is the Greenhouse effect.
GREENHOUSE EFFECT is a phenomenon of trapping of radiation from the Sun inside the earth due to Greenhouse gasses Like Carbon Dioxide, methane etc.
The greenhouse effect happens when certain gases—known as greenhouse gases—collect in Earth’s atmosphere. These gases include carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen oxide, and fluorinated gases sometimes known as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).IMPACT OF CARBON DI OXIDE
Carbon dioxide is the main Greenhouse gas which is responsible for global warming.
This gas is released by Vehicle emissions. Countries like India have urged its people to curb the emissions of Vehicles and it wishes to become a net zero carbon emission nation by 2070. Emissions can be cut if people use new vehicles which come with eco friendly techniques. Using old vehicles causes a lot of emission of carbon.
Another way by which carbon dioxide is released is through burning of fossil fuels like coal. Hence Global warming is an issue which should be dealt with timely for if we don’t Act on time we will suffer irreparable loss. Hence Global warming should be taken seriously by all.
