Here is what I intend to say in the webinar :
I am very happy that Ibaadatkhana has organised this Christmas special online global webinar on the eve of Christmas.
India has had a long association with Christianity.
Firstly, it is believed that one of the 3 Wise Men who came from the East to the manger where Jesus was born was from India, the other two being from Arabia and Persia.
Secondly, it is believed that one of Jesus’ disciples, St Thomas, came to Kerala in India to preach Christ’s message, and built the first Indian church. Many churches in India are still called Thomistic.
Thirdly, many Jesuits came to the Court of the great Moghul Emperor Akbar, and attended the religious discussions in the building called Ibaadatkhana in his new capital at Fatehpur Sikri which he built in 1575, and explained about Christianity to the congregation there.
Ibaadatkhana, after which our organisation has been named, is a unique building in the world. In other religious buildings usually people from only one religion congregate, e.g. Christians in churches, Muslims in mosques, Hindus in temples, Sikhs in gurdwaras, etc.
But in Ibaadatkhana, which the great Moghul Emperor Akbar built, scholars and saints from all religions met and explained the good points of their religion, peacefully and amicably. Hence the significance of Ibaadatkhana, and its importance in establishing inter faith harmony, which our organisation stands for, and is vital for world peace.
In the painting below, which was made in Emperor Akbar’s time, the people in black garments are the Jesuits
