During the Mutiny of 1857, Mirza Ghalib, the great Urdu poet who lived in Delhi, was brought before a British officer Col Brown, who asked him “ Tum Musalman ho ? “.
“ Aadha Musalman “ replied Ghalib.
“ Aadha Musalman kaisa ? “ asked the Britisher.
“ Sharaab peeta hun, suar nahi khaata “ replied Ghalib.
This made the British officer laugh, and he let him off.
My problem is that I am worse than Ghalib. Main sharaab bhi peeta hun, aur suar bhi khaata hun. Isliye mere liye jahannum tay hai.
